What are esports?
Esports is a term derived from “electronic sports” and is essentially competition in video games at a very high level, similar to traditional sports. Esports titles vary from team-based games to individual games with each title assuming a certain genre. Genres vary from multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBA) to real-time strategy (RTS) and first-person shooters (FPS). At Jefferson Academy, all games offered to our high school students for competition purposes are either rated "T for Teen" -- games that are appropriate for students 13 years or older -- or "E for Everyone" -- games for all ages. Players must be 13 years or older to participate in the high school leagues.
JA participates in the fall and spring seasons of the High School esports League.
