National Honor Society

National Honor Society is among the largest and most prestigious clubs at Jefferson Academy. Our chapter consists of high-achieving, community-oriented students who aim to serve the JA and local communities by managing school events and finding and partaking in volunteering opportunities. National Honor Society emphasizes scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

“National Honor Society (NHS) membership has been the true mark of student achievement for over 100 years, but it goes far beyond a report card. By empowering, championing, and recognizing well-rounded students, NHS provides schools with a values-based framework to elevate a culture of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

NHS chapters operate in all 50 states and many schools around the world, engaging and serving more than 1.4 million students. Each year, the average NHS chapter contributes:

  • 1,000 hours of school/community service

  • $26,000 in charitable donations

  • 1,000 pounds of food to local, state, and national causes

  • 100 pints of blood”

National Honor Society membership will be granted once a student satisfies the following conditions:

  1. A GPA of 3.5 or greater is maintained.

  2. Once a student is invited to apply at the end of their sophomore or junior year, they must complete an application which consists of:

    1. A letter of recommendation

    2. An application essay

Once a student has been accepted into National Honor Society, membership is contingent upon reflection of our values and completion of 40 hours of community service per school year. Membership will be reviewed annually.
