Dear JA & Summit families,
On Tuesday night during the Board of Director’s meeting, the BOD discussed a transition plan for the Executive Director role. In December of 2024 I let the JA Board of Directors know that I would be transitioning out of my role in June of 2026. This is my eighth year as the Executive Director at JACS. Prior to that, I supported our campuses as the district representative for charter schools at Jeffco, making this my 11th year supporting JACS.
Through our Strategic Plans, strong leadership, highly engaged staff, and parent partnerships across our campuses, JACS is in a great position to move forward with a new Executive Director beginning next school year. We should all be proud of the work we have accomplished together for our students and community over the last 8 years:
Secondary: building the auditorium, fine arts wing, auxiliary gym, expanding the main gym and weight room, and now the new all weather track and grandstands
Elementary: building the new playground, resolving ground water issues, and purchasing the church at the Elementary in order double the size of Jag Care and PreK
Summit Westminster: building out and doubling the size of the front portion of the campus in order to substantially increase enrollment; opening the Summit Athletic Program for high performance athletes
Summit South: opening the Lakewood and then Conifer campuses, and currently finalizing plans to secure a long-term single site solution for the program
Coal Creek Canyon: bringing all JA has to offer to a small mountain community that desperately needed to keep the school alive
Compensation: substantially increasing staff compensation, bringing JACS staff from 78/82% to 92% of district scale, with plans to move to 94% in the coming years
Financial Fortitude: establishing practices that have made JACS very fiscally sound, developing a path whereby Jeffco Schools agreed to pay interest on our fund reserves, and putting us on a trajectory to pay off our $18M bond in 10 years instead of 30 years
The Board is committed to ensuring a smooth and seamless transition to the next Executive Director. On Tuesday, they began to develop a clear and thoughtful hiring process that will ensure the organization's continued success. Recognizing the vital parent-school partnership for the success of all Jefferson Academy Charter School Campuses, the BOD will keep you informed of the process as it moves forward. JACS will remain focussed on instilling JA’s Core Values and maintaining high academic outcomes to ensure that our students have the character, knowledge, and internal fortitude not only to be successful after graduation, but also to make a difference in their communities.
It is an honor to be entrusted with your children every day. JACS remains committed to finding new and/or more effective ways to support students in their learning and educational experience.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Tim Matlick, JACS Executive Director
