Soccer wins again - heads to semifinals

JAGS WIN! JAGS WIN!

In their return to their home field and in front of a capacity crowd, the Jags pulled off a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Titans from Coal Ridge. It was the first and only home game for the Jags this season and Jaguar Nation showed up in force!

It didn't take too long for the Jags to get on the board. Senior Troy Brown scored on a header off Preston Orrell's (So.) corner at the 16th minute. Minutes later, the Titans' knotted it up at one. The rest of the first half was heavily contested as both teams found hard-hitting fouls and dramatic chances.

The second half was a true battle as the Titans came out with no fear. They hit the back of the net first, taking a 2-1 lead deep into the half. With 14 minutes left in the half, Senior Luca Arroyo sent a laser shot past the Titans' keeper and tied the game up at two. As the seconds ticked off the clock, each team pressed hard, and tempers started to flare. With yellow cards being issued to players and coaches alike, the scene was set for the final five minutes of the game.

With just four minutes left in regulation, Matteo Gagliano (So.) was tackled in the box and a penalty kick was awarded to the Jags. Senior Dylan Bahrenburg capitalized on the opportunity, giving the Jags the lead, and they never looked back.

Not to be forgotten, the Jags' defense came up huge multiple times during the game, especially in the final minutes, to keep the Titans away from the box. Junior Keeper Trevor Chichirico made multiple spectacular saves in what was his toughest challenge of the season.

Special thanks go out to The Jefferson Academy Athletics Department, Mr. Bott, and everybody who had a part in making today's game happen here at home. It was truly a magical scene seeing every seat filled in our new grandstands.

Next up: The Jags will face 3-seed Steamboat Springs on Wednesday night at 7:30pm. The game will be played at The NAAC Complex. Tickets will be available online via CHSAA. Once details are announced, we will share them on our socials and website.
