JA Secondary Family Newsletter

SCHOOL NEWS

ILLNESS REMINDERS  The Secondary campus has been experiencing a spike in illnesses over the past few weeks.  As a reminder, if your student has a fever of 100 degrees or more, they should remain home until they are fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT medication.  Students should also stay home for 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.  Students with a cough that is uncontrolled should also remain home until the cough is managed.  Please refer to this document from the Colorado Department of Health, How Sick is Too Sick.

SAC SURVEY   The Jefferson Academy School Accountability Committee has opened its annual SAC survey and wants to hear from all JA Secondary families.  Please use this link to find and complete the 5-minute survey.  The survey is open from February 16th to February 25th.

NOT RETURNING TO JA NEXT YEAR?  If you know your student will not be returning to JA next year, please contact Mrs. Leoni at aleoni@jajags.com as soon as possible to let her know.  This helps us manage our enrollment, staffing, and budgets for next year.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE STAFF DINNER DONATIONS One of JA's fantastic traditions is providing dinner for the staff during Parent/Teacher Conferences which will be the evening of Thursday , March 5th this year. Donations help Boosters put together a really nice dinner break in the midst of a long day. This can be done via CheddarUp (Link below) or drop off an envelope in the office indicating "Parent Teacher Conference Staff Dinner."

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

In Junior High, we are seeing an increase in the use of dehumanizing language, both verbally and in writing. To dehumanize someone is to target gender, ideology, skin color, ethnicity, religion, age—and to make them either feel or appear somehow less than human. Please look to have conversations at home about treating others with respect and kindness, honoring our differences, and the impact our words can have on others.

GIRLS WHO CODE Are you looking for free, fun, enriching programming for your students this summer? Look no further, Girls Who Code has got you covered! Girls Who Code’s free, virtual Pathways is a summer program for high school girls and non-binary students, including rising 9th graders, graduating seniors, and returning participants. Participants have the chance to explore technology, build projects based on their interests, and join a supportive global community—no prior coding experience or program fees required.
