SCHOOL NEWS
One more week Jags! The First day of school is coming up quickly! August 17th is our first day of school for all students. Please note that it’s a FULL day of school for everyone.
SCHOOL PHOTOS AND STUDENT IDs (NEW THIS YEAR!)
All students (returning JA Secondary students, Newly enrolled JA Secondary students AND ALL SENIORS) must have their school photo taken on Thursday, August 13th in the main gym between 3:00 and 6:00 pm during the Open House. IDs will be printed and distributed at that time and will be required for students purchasing school lunch beginning the first day of school. All students must have a photo taken for Infinite Campus records and student IDs. Should you miss the Open House on August 13th a make-up picture day will be offered September 17th during the school day. Parents who would like like to place an order in advance, they can do so at MyLifetouch. Event Code: EVTF9D3KX
OPEN HOUSE FOR ALL STUDENTS AND FAMILIES ON AUGUST 13TH
Please join us for an open house on Thursday, August 13th from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. All students (returning and newly enrolled) and families are welcome to attend. This is a great opportunity to visit the building for new students (and returning students), pick up schedules, meet teachers, drop off meds to the clinic and get to know JA.
(NEW THIS YEAR!) ALL Students must stop by the main gym on August 13th to have their school photo taken in the main gym and get their student ID printed.
IMPORTANT CELL PHONE UPDATE (NEW THIS YEAR!)
In June 2026, our Board of Directors approved the new Personal Technology Policy, which outlines the use of cell phones at school. Along with many schools across the country, Jefferson Academy has adopted a “Bell to Bell No Cell Phone Use Policy” which means that cell phones are not allowed to be used on campus during the entire school day from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm or from “Bell to Bell - No Cell.”
Cell phones will not be allowed in any classroom at any time. Cell phones will not be allowed during passing times in the hallway, cell phones will not be allowed before school in the lunchroom or at lunch time. Cell phones will not be allowed during free periods or off periods when students are on the JA campus. Your child’s cell phone needs to be turned off and in their backpack, and cannot at any time be brought out during the school day. This is truly a no cell phone use policy.
We understand that this change will be challenging for our students and our parents. We ask that you work with your child and explain the new policy to them and work together to determine how you will communicate with each other. We will continue to use the “old fashioned" method of communication. If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call the main office. Your message will be written down and taken to your child in class. If your child needs to contact you during the school day they may come down to the office, when approved by their teacher, and use the main office phone to call you.
We will be reviewing with all students the consequences for having their cell phones out during the school day. Please click here to see the Cell Phone Consequences
IMPORTANT COMPUTER DEVICE UPDATE (NEW THIS YEAR!)
We are excited to announce that JA will now be providing on-campus classroom devices beginning by September 7th. This decision was made to create consistency across classrooms, increase security measures, and reduce family expenses. School chromebooks will only be available for on-campus use, will not be assigned as a personal student device, and will not be taken home.
What does this mean for families? Students may need their own device temporarily on-campus until September 7th. Once we have school chromebooks ready in classrooms, students will only need an at-home device. Student’s personal devices will not be allowed on campus for use.
We thank you for your patience as we get all new devices ready for classrooms. Should you have difficulty providing a student device, please contact Jen Davis, Technology Coordinator, jdavis@jajags.com to discuss possible options.
JA REGISTRATION IS OPEN
Now is the time to complete our online registration process for your student(s). This process must be completed fully for each student who will be attending school this year and is separate from Jeffco Schools Annual Update. Use this link: https://secondary.jajags.com/page/registration to confirm your students’ enrollment to JA Secondary and sign agreement forms (students and parents). All families MUST complete this process for each student.
LOCKERS
8-12 grade students interested in obtaining a locker can do so upon request in the office. 7th grade students can request a locker via a sign up in their 7th grade School Orientation class. Lockers will be assigned approximately the second week of school.
ATTENTION 7TH GRADE FAMILIES
If you were a JA Elementary 6th Grade Student, you are invited to go back to JA Elementary school to pick-up your chromebook from last school year. That chromebook is yours to keep and can serve as your “at-home” device to use.
JA EMAIL ACCOUNTS FOR RISING 7TH GRADE STUDENTS
If your student attended JA Elementary last year, their Elementary jajags account will be deleted on August 14th. Their new Secondary Google accounts are now active. Their new account is their full legal name @jajags.com. For example, John Smith would be john.smith@jajags.com. The password for the account is their last name capitalized and student id. For example, if John Smith has a student ID of 1234567 then his password is Smith1234567 Remove any spaces in names but leave hyphens. Students will set their own password after the initial login. 6th grade email accounts were sent this information on July 31st and the email contained directions to move any files students might want to keep. Check with your student concerning this information. Login information can also be found on our website at secondary.jajags.com under Students -> Links for Login. Other accounts will be set up before school starts.

UPDATED 2026-2027 FAMILY CALENDARS
Please see the attached updated family calendar for the 2026-2027 school year. Our calendar has changed due to the availability of the Green Center at the Colorado School of Mines for our 2027 Graduation which will now be held on Monday, May 17, 2027 at 10:30 am shifting our final schedules for students in grades 7-11 to May 18 & 19, 2027.
PURCHASING A PARKING PERMIT
Any student who will be parking in the student lot for the 2026-2027 school year, must have a valid parking permit displayed on their car. Permits are paid online through Infinite Campus and the parking form must be completed (both sides) and submitted to the main office during the first week of school. Mr. Melville will issue parking permits at lunch during the week of August 24th to the students who have completed the paperwork and paid. Students parking in the lot without a valid permit are subject to parking warnings and fines. Student parking has changed to the west side of the parking lot. Avoid parking in spaces marked “Staff”.
DROP OFF/PICK UP PROCEDURE (UPDATED AFTER PUBLICATION)
Since JA Secondary does not provide transportation to and from school, we have instituted a specific procedure and traffic pattern for both drop off and pick up times. Over the years, we have tweaked our system to cut down on wait times and provide a safe area for our students and staff to enter and exit the building during high traffic times. We ask that you follow these guidelines and traffic patterns, throughout the whole year, to help alleviate stress and avoid any potential hazardous situations. Each day at pick up, you will see our staff in the parking lot, directing traffic. Please adhere to the directions they give and please be respectful. When we work together, the traffic line will run smoothly.

Cars will enter at the intersection of Reed Way and 113th. Once you enter the lot, you must stay along the perimeter of the lot - ALL THE WAY AROUND THE LOT. Vehicles must follow the traffic pattern around the lot, as seen in the image. This includes staying in the lane on the side of the school, within the painted white line, and then across the front of the school past the Auditorium entrance where we have two exits.
Exiting the lot into the Reed Way/113th intersection is NOT an option during drop off. This exit is for STUDENTS AND STAFF ONLY. Keeping this exit clear of added traffic allows our staff to clear the parking lot in a more efficient and safe manner.
Due to Colorado HB26-1237, we are NOT able to use the bike lanes along Reed Way and 113th for parents to pick up students.
We do ask that you please keep the following in mind while entering campus:
Do not cut through staff or student parking lanes. You will be redirected around the lot.
Do not drop off or pick up your students in a random spot in the parking lot OR in our neighboring lots (MKS and The Restaurant Supply Store).
Do not block crosswalks in front of the school or at the entrance to the parking lot.

Schedule changes for Quarter 1 will end on Tuesday, August 19th @ 3pm.
STUDENT SCHEDULES - ADVISEMENT CLASS
Many Junior High students will see “Advisement Class” in B block. Student placements in Advisement Class are based solely on each student’s individual learning data. This class will offer targeted support in ELA and/or Math by our ELA and Math Intervention Teachers for Quarter 1 only. For the remainder of the school year, intervention teachers will support students within ELA and Math classrooms in partnership with core teachers.
